Help the Aged works with partners across the EU to ensure that older people's voices are heard at a European level, and that policies and laws made by European politicians are sensitive to the needs of older people. In recent years, successful lobbying at the EU level has led to progress for older people across all member states. The ban on age discrimination in employment and training (due to come into force in 2006) was the result of successful lobbying at the European level by age organisations. Help the Aged works particularly with countries new to the European Union to support their older people's organisations as they adapt to new European structures, and to new forms of engagement with their national governments which come about as a result of European Integration. This section covers the work we are doing in Europe and with European partners. Report on East and Central European Network annual meeting in Prague (May 2005) A report on the work that Help the Aged and its partners have undertaken with the East and Central European Network up to 2005 - to build the capacity of organisations and improve links between age-interested NGOs in the enlarged EU. Report on East and Central European Network annual meeting in Vilnius (July 2004) A report on the work that Help the Aged and its partners have undertaken with the East and Central European Network up to 2004 - to build the capacity of organisations and improve links between age-interested NGOs in the enlarged EU. ^top |
