Policy statements Help the Aged has welcomed the proposals for a commission to promote equality and human rights for everyone. We envisage the new commission as a powerful advocate for older people, with the expertise and resources necessary to make age equality a reality. In this section you will find documents which outline the stance Help the Aged has taken in relation to the Commission for Equality and Human Rights and other equalities bodies. Policy Statement on CEHR (July 2007) The Commission for Equality and Human Rights is due to start its work in October 2007. It is the first statutory bnon-governmental body tasked with reducing inequality, eliminating discrimination and strengthening good relations across all equality strands- sez, race, disability, religion/belief, sexual orientation and age - and promoting and protecting human rights. For the first time in Britain, there will be a public body responsible for promoting age equality and tackling age discrimination and ageist attitudes, and this is to be celebrated.
